The Black Champion Returns to the Pools of Berlin

Berlin, Germany – November 14, 2009 – Sabir Muhammad is back in Berlin with Michael Phelps and the rest of the US squad to compete for the FINA Swimming World Cup.

Sabir Muhammad, unique in his own right as an exceptional swimmer of the successful USA swimming team, makes his way back to the pool after a long period of absence as Dara Torres before him. Lauded with a successful record for his participation in the world championships, Sabir is an incredible African-American athlete who is renewing excitement in a sport long considered "white."

A man of business, he graduated from the prestigious Stanford University with a distinguished career in the biotech and venture capital which has led him to a prestigious position in the ranks of the Motu Novu, the leading international federation of professionals. Motu Novu has shown their support as a main sponsor at the forefront of the Berlin competition.

Sabir desires to have his passion, continuous efforts, determination and hard training, set an example of hope for those who, like him, are born in disadvantaged neighborhoods and who struggle to realize their dreams. Along with other U.S. professionals, he organizes "clinics" for at-risk youth with an aim to make swimming a means of success and growth, enabling them to get out of their difficult situations and keep away from criminal activities.
